Seven days that swing from cloud-wrapped waterfalls to a rhino safari, and finish on a river at sunset.
Some honeymoons are about lying still on a beach. This one is about being surprised every single day. It opens in Meghalaya, where the cloud sits low over the Khasi hills and the water never quite stops falling, and it closes in Assam, out on the grasslands of Kaziranga looking for rhinos.
In between, you will stop beside a reservoir the colour of steel, walk across a bridge that villagers grew from living tree roots, ride a boat on water so clear it hardly looks like water at all, and share an open jeep at dusk with whatever the park decides to show you. The evenings stay slow - a cruise down the Brahmaputra, a candle-lit table, just the two of you.
Every night is spent in 4-star and similar hotels with air-conditioned luxury rooms, with a luxury AC tent waiting at Kaziranga, and the whole route is covered in a private air-conditioned car with your own driver.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
From the wettest hills on earth to the grasslands of Assam - day by day
- Our representative meets you at Guwahati airport or the railway station and sees you into your private car
- The road climbs steadily out of the plains and into the Khasi hills - roughly four hours to Shillong
- Pull over at Umiam Lake, a broad, still reservoir hemmed in by pine-covered ridges
- Check in at your Shillong hotel and take the first evening slow
- After breakfast, set off for Sohra - the town most of us still call Cherrapunjee, and one of the wettest inhabited places anywhere
- Stop at Elephant Falls on the way out, where the stream steps down through three separate drops
- Wander the mossy walkways of the Garden of Caves
- Duck into the limestone passages of Arwah Cave or Mawsmai Cave
- Watch Seven Sisters Falls pour off the edge of the plateau, then stand at Nohkalikai - the highest plunge waterfall in the country
- Drive back to Shillong for the night
- Early breakfast, then head south to Mawlynnong - the Khasi village that became famous simply for keeping itself immaculate (it stays shut to visitors on Sundays)
- Walk down to the Single Living Root Bridge: about fifteen minutes going down on a gentle path, twenty coming back up
- After lunch, carry on to Dawki near the Bangladesh border - the last stretch runs alongside steep ravines and deep valleys
- At Dawki the Umngot runs so clear that the boats look like they are hanging in mid-air; the river also separates the Khasi hills from the Jaintia hills
- Look for the single-arc suspension bridge the British left behind, still slung across the water
- Head back to Shillong for the night
- Start at the Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures - seven floors that explain the tribes of the entire North East better than any guidebook (closed Sundays)
- Take a turn around Ward's Lake, the landscaped garden lake in the middle of town with its little arched footbridge (closed Tuesdays)
- From late morning, begin the long descent out of the hills into Assam and on towards Kaziranga
- Check in to your resort or luxury tent and turn in early - tomorrow starts at first light
- Head out early for the elephant ride - the grass here grows taller than a car, and from up there you can look straight down into it
- Kaziranga holds close to two-thirds of the world's one-horned rhinos, along with wild buffalo, swamp deer, elephants and a remarkable spread of birdlife
- In the afternoon, take an open jeep into one of the park's designated zones for a second, faster look around
- Wind down at the Kaziranga National Orchid and Biodiversity Park, where hundreds of orchid species grow beside medicinal and local plants
- Overnight at Kaziranga
- Early breakfast, check out, and drive back down to Guwahati
- If the clock allows, take the short ferry across to Umananda - a Shiva temple sitting on a small island in the middle of the Brahmaputra
- Stop at the Navagraha Temple on Chitrachal hill, built around the nine celestial bodies
- As the light goes soft, board an evening cruise on the Brahmaputra - the quietest, prettiest hour of the whole week
- Overnight in Guwahati
- If you are up early, drive up Nilachal hill for a look at the Kamakhya Temple from outside (VIP darshan passes are not included and need to be booked by you at mkdonline.in)
- Back to the hotel for an unhurried breakfast
- Transfer to Guwahati airport (GAU) in good time for your flight
- You head home with a camera full of hills, rivers and at least one rhino

Kaziranga entry & jeep safari: Entry tickets and jeep safaris are regulated and controlled by the Forest Department, Government of Assam. We have no control over their booking or availability.
Elephant ride: Elephant rides are conducted and controlled by the Forest Department and cannot be confirmed in advance. The booking counter opens only in the evening, one day prior to the ride - we can confirm your ride only once the tickets are secured.
Supplement cost: If the Forest Department raises the cost of jungle activities, or there is a hike in fuel prices, a supplement cost will apply over and above the quoted package cost.
Weekly closures: Mawlynnong is closed to tourists on Sundays, the Don Bosco Museum is closed on Sundays and Ward’s Lake is closed on Tuesdays. We adjust the plan around your travel dates.
Best Time: October to April is ideal for both Meghalaya and Kaziranga. Kaziranga National Park usually remains closed during the monsoon months.

All stays are in 4-star and similar properties with AC Luxury rooms, and at Kaziranga you stay in a Luxury AC Tent. We can upgrade to 5-star or premium resorts on request.
No. Elephant rides are conducted and controlled by the Forest Department and cannot be confirmed in advance. The ticket counter opens only in the evening, one day before the ride, and we can confirm it only once tickets are secured. The jeep safari and entry tickets are also regulated by the Forest Department.
October to April is ideal - the weather is pleasant across Meghalaya, the waterfalls still flow and Kaziranga is open for safaris. The park generally closes during the monsoon months.
