Important Notes

Please read before booking

🌿

Best Time: October–May is ideal, with clear skies and pleasant weather. June–September is the monsoon — Cherrapunji and Mawsynram are the wettest places on earth — when waterfalls are at their fullest but rain is heavy.

✈️

How to Reach: Fly into Guwahati (Assam), the gateway to the North East; Shillong is about a 3-hour scenic drive. Shillong also has a small airport at Umroi. We handle all transfers.

🌂

Weather: Carry rain protection year-round — showers can pop up even outside the monsoon. Mornings are best for boating and waterfalls before clouds build.

💰

Money & Network: ATMs are reliable in Shillong and Guwahati; carry cash for villages, boats and entry fees. Mobile network is patchy in remote valleys.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before you book

The Umngot river at Dawki is renowned for water so clear that boats appear to float on air, with the riverbed visible several metres down. It is at its glassy best in the dry season (roughly November to April), especially in the early morning.

You fly into Guwahati (Assam), the region's main gateway, and we drive you up to Shillong - about 3 hours through pine hills, with a stop at Umiam Lake. All transfers are included.

The headline ones are Nohkalikai (India's tallest plunge waterfall), the Seven Sisters (Nohsngithiang) Falls, and seasonal beauties like Dainthlen and Wei Sawdong, plus the Mawsmai limestone caves.

Mawlynnong is celebrated as Asia's cleanest village, with spotless bamboo-lined lanes, a living root bridge at nearby Riwai, a bamboo skywalk with valley views, and a strong community cleanliness tradition.

Yes - the sightseeing is gentle, with short walks at viewpoints and the option to skip the longer root-bridge trek. The pace is relaxed, making it comfortable for families and seniors.

October to May offers the clearest skies and most pleasant weather. The June-September monsoon makes the waterfalls spectacularly full but brings very heavy rain - Cherrapunji and Mawsynram are the wettest places on earth.

No - Indian travellers need no special permit for Meghalaya or Assam, just a valid photo ID. (Permits are only required for states like Arunachal Pradesh, which we arrange for combo tours.)

Yes - the famous double-decker living root bridge at Nongriat is a rewarding day trek from Cherrapunji (around 3,500 steps each way). We can add a day for it; see our dedicated root-bridge trek packages too.
