When is Navratri 2026?
Sharad Navratri falls in October 2026 (please verify the exact dates for this year, as they shift with the Hindu calendar). This is peak season - hotels in Katra, helicopter slots and battery cars all fill up weeks in advance, so early booking is essential.
Registration is mandatory
Every yatri needs the free RFID yatra slip from the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, along with a valid photo ID. In Navratri the registration counters are extremely busy - we arrange it for you so you skip the queue.
Helicopter booking - book NOW for Navratri
The Katra–Sanjichhat helicopter (a 5–8 minute flight that skips most of the climb) is in huge demand during Navratri and Diwali, and slots sell out fast. If you or your elders want to fly up:
- Book as early as possible - festive slots go weeks ahead.
- It is weather-dependent, so keep a buffer day.

Beating the crowds - practical tips
- Start early: begin the climb pre-dawn to avoid both heat and the biggest rush.
- Travel mid-week if you can - weekends in Navratri are the most crowded.
- Book hotels in advance: Katra fills up completely; last-minute rooms are scarce and costly.
- Keep it light: use cloakrooms for bags; phones and leather items may be restricted inside the shrine.
- Stay patient: darshan queues are long in Navratri - carry water and go with a calm mind.
