About this Gangotri Yatra
To the source-shrine of the holy Ganga
Gangotri is where the Ganga is worshipped as the goddess Ganga, near the point where the Bhagirathi river emerges from the Himalayas. This gentle 4-day trip from Haridwar follows the Bhagirathi valley up through Uttarkashi and the beautiful pine forests and apple orchards of Harsil to the Gangotri temple.
It's one of the more relaxed of the four dhams — no long trek, just scenic mountain driving and darshan — making it a lovely standalone pilgrimage or an easy pairing with Yamunotri. Hotels, pure-veg meals and registration are handled.

Yatra registration: Char Dham Yatra registration (the tourist card / biometric registration) is mandatory for all pilgrims. We help you complete it before your journey.
Kedarnath trek: Kedarnath involves a roughly 16–18 km uphill trek from Gaurikund. Ponies, palki (palanquin) and helicopter shuttles are available at your own cost. A basic fitness level is advised.
Best time: The shrines open around late April and close near Diwali. April–June and September–October are ideal; the July–August monsoon can bring landslides and road delays.
Altitude & weather: the higher shrines are at altitude with cold, fast-changing weather even in summer — carry warm layers year-round.

No — the Gangotri temple is reachable by road, so there is no trek. It is one of the easiest of the four dhams, which makes it comfortable for families and seniors.
Gangotri is the sacred source-shrine where the river is worshipped as the goddess Ganga. The glacial origin, Gaumukh, is a further ~18 km trek from Gangotri and is not part of this darshan-focused trip.
Harsil is a beautiful, quiet village of pine forests and apple orchards on the Bhagirathi, between Uttarkashi and Gangotri. We include a night there so you can enjoy the valley rather than just pass through.
Gangotri typically opens on Akshaya Tritiya (around late April) and closes around Diwali. This yatra runs through that season; the exact dates are set by the temple calendar each year.
Yes — Gangotri and Yamunotri are the two "western" dhams and are often done together as a Do Dham yatra. We can extend this trip to cover both.
This darshan-focused trip ends at the Gangotri temple. Gaumukh, the actual glacial snout, is a further ~18 km trek each way and needs a forest permit and extra days — we can arrange that as a separate add-on for keen trekkers.
Gangotri is at ~3,100 m, so mornings and evenings are cold even in summer, and nights can near freezing early and late in the season. Carry proper woollens and a warm jacket.
It is a scenic drive up the Bhagirathi valley via Tehri and Uttarkashi, ending through the pine forests of Harsil. We break it with a night in Uttarkashi rather than one long push.
