About this Overnight Trip

The quickest way to wake up beside Pangong Lake

Already in Leh and short on time? This overnight escape is the fastest way to experience Pangong Lake properly — not just a rushed day trip. You drive out over Chang La (with monastery stops at Shey and Thiksey), spend a night at a lakeside camp, and catch the famous Pangong sunrise before heading back.

It's a private trip with your own vehicle and driver-cum-guide, the Pangong permit is arranged, and dinner and breakfast at the camp are included.

Please note: this is an add-on for travellers who have already spent a day or two in Leh and acclimatised — Pangong is high, and it's not recommended straight off the flight.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Two days, one unforgettable night by the lake

  • Leave Leh after breakfast, stopping at Shey Palace and the beautiful Thiksey Monastery on the way out.
  • Climb over Chang La (~17,590 ft) — one of the world's highest motorable passes — with a quick photo halt.
  • Descend past Tangtse to reach Pangong Lake by afternoon; free time to walk the shore.
  • Watch the sky fill with stars over the water; dinner and overnight at a lakeside camp.
🌟 Note: Nights at Pangong (~14,000 ft) are freezing even in summer — camps provide heavy quilts, but bring thermals and a warm hat.
  • Wake early for the Pangong sunrise — the colours on the water are the highlight of the whole trip.
  • Breakfast at the camp, then begin the drive back over Chang La.
  • Arrive Leh by afternoon, where the trip concludes — perfect timing to connect with a longer itinerary.
💡 Pro Tip: Set an alarm for sunrise — you came all this way for exactly this moment, and the light only lasts minutes.
